Whoo hoo, we are officially one month into summer! Did you know that on the planet Uranus each summer solstice lasts for 42 years?, don’t be too jealous though because the winter solstice also lasts for 42 years…yikes!
Besides being able to justify ice cream for dinner, the best part about summer is spending more time outdoors! However, even in these warmer months getting a dose of sun and fresh air can still be tough during office hours. Luckily, more and more companies are realizing that “access to natural light, fresh air, and nature fulfills a basic human need and fosters well-being and satisfaction that can aid in recruiting and retaining employees and students,” as mentioned in this article by Facility Executive. Thanks in part to such research employers are now including outdoor space as an essential amenity, whether it be outside vs. inside paths to other buildings, patio dining areas or sprawling space for office social functions and activities
In celebration of the season, we have featured various styles of our favorite outdoor space from completed projects: a large sliding glass wall creates indoor/outdoor lounge space at Clover, lush landscaping and bocce courts at Men’s Wearhouse, bright meeting and dining grounds at Mercedes Benz R&D and a garage door in the kitchen at AP+I Design spills out to social/dining space as well as edible garden boxes.
