Sustainability

Take a look around you; everything from your overhead lighting to flooring represents a building design decision. Given that we spend upwards of 90 percent of our time indoors, these decisions matter – and can have profound effects on our health and the environment.

Today’s owners and occupants are looking for more than just a physical space to work in; they want purpose around their building both inside and out.  This focus spans multiple areas including; sustainable building materials, efficient daily building functioning, flexible workspaces, and energizing break areas just to name a few.

Healthy environments are important. We create functional spaces that improve the human experience and our everyday interactions with the environment.  It is our goal to continuously educate ourselves on innovative building practices that will allow us to further our passion and advance our client’s goals.  We are proud to have made several industry achievements including:

  • First Zero Net Energy (ZNE) commercial office building in the US (IDEaS)
  • First Zero Net Energy (ZNE) commercial spec office building (435 Indio)
  • Awarded California Energy Commission (CEC) grant to develop a ZNE building as an
example for CA Title 24 requirements (415 N. Mathilda)
  • First Zero Net Energy (ZNE) commercial building in the City of Mountain View (AP+I Design)

Hillhouse is the ideal sustainable construction partner because of our highly collaborative design-build and design-assist work style.  We ensure that the client has a voice in the process and that we produce results that exceed expectations.  Being ambitious ourselves, we maintain longstanding relationships with other industry innovators that all work together to expand knowledge and achieve greater results.
